Only in Our Dreams

Only in Our Dreams is a playful exploration of imagination, community and the strange little worlds we create within our minds.

The painting unfolds like a dream, filled with colourful houses, winding waterways and hundreds of tiny characters gathered together in an almost impossible landscape. Buildings appear to float above the water, boats drift between crowded neighbourhoods and people, animals and curious creatures emerge from every corner.

At the top of the painting, a glowing yellow sun rises behind a collection of whimsical buildings, bringing warmth to the busy world below. Two figures look out from a window, quietly observing the colourful chaos surrounding them. Below, the landscape becomes increasingly alive, with clusters of characters forming their own little communities amongst the houses, boats and unexpected objects.

Look closer and the painting becomes a world of its own. Faces hide within buildings, animals appear amongst crowds, tiny scenes unfold between characters and unusual details reveal themselves the longer you spend with the work. There is a wonderful sense that everyone belongs somewhere, even in a place where nothing quite follows the rules of reality.

To me, Only in Our Dreams is about the freedom of imagination and the places our minds can take us when there are no boundaries. It celebrates individuality, connection and the wonderfully strange worlds that can exist only in our dreams.

• Dimensions: 91 × 60 cm
• Printed on high-quality 100% cotton canvas using archival pigment inks, then finished with four protective coats of art varnish. Each canvas is professionally stretched over kiln-dried plantation pine stretcher bars and supplied ready to hang, complete with hanging fittings, brown framer’s tape and felt bumpons on the back.
• The original artwork was created using acrylic and ink on canvas. The exceptional print quality preserves the depth, texture and intricate detail of the original, making it beautifully difficult to distinguish between the print and the original artwork.
