Meet The Artist
Martyn Williamson is an artist born in New Zealand in 1956.
Martyn has lived in Queensland for the past 45 years, where he and his wife raised their family of three daughters. For many years, he owned and operated a large business before later working as a landscaper. Landscaping gave him a physical way to express his creativity, while painting and drawing remained a constant passion whenever time allowed.
With an open heart and a caring nature, Martyn has always been fascinated by people. He has connected with individuals from all walks of life - the quirky, the fortunate, and those who have faced hardship. The people he meets often stay in his memory and later find their way into his artwork.
Martyn began creating art as a teenager while living alone in a small beach shack. Using inks, he would draw images from his dreams. Some of these early works are still framed and displayed in his home, which has become his own personal gallery of memories and imagination.
Throughout his life, art has been a calming and therapeutic form of expression. It has allowed him to explore his emotions, his imagination and the complexity of his creative mind.
After years of giving artworks as gifts and completing private commissions, Martyn has now chosen to pursue his art professionally. With more time to create, he continues to develop his unique style without compromising the individuality and honesty that have always shaped his work.
