Covid 19

Covid 19 is an exploration of a moment in history that changed the way we lived, connected and understood the world around us.

At the centre of the painting, two contrasting forms appear to exist side by side. One is rich with deep reds, magentas and burnt orange, while the other is fragmented and exposed, emerging through layers of earthy tones, greens and muted colour. Together they create a powerful sense of tension, vulnerability and transformation.

The raw brushstrokes, scratched surfaces and overlapping layers give the painting an unsettled energy. Some areas feel heavy and confined, while others are lighter and more open, reflecting the uncertainty and contradiction that defined the experience of the pandemic for so many people.

Look closer and fragments of faces, eyes and human forms begin to emerge from the abstraction. Nothing feels completely resolved, inviting each viewer to find their own meaning within the work and perhaps recognise something of their own experience.

To me, Covid 19 captures the emotional complexity of an extraordinary period in our lives. It speaks to isolation and uncertainty, but also to resilience, change and the deeply human experience of moving through something none of us could fully understand at the time.

• Dimensions: 119 × 89 cm
• Printed on high-quality 100% cotton canvas using archival pigment inks, then finished with four protective coats of art varnish. Each canvas is professionally stretched over kiln-dried plantation pine stretcher bars and supplied ready to hang, complete with hanging fittings, brown framer’s tape and felt bumpons on the back.
• The original artwork was created using acrylic and ink on canvas. The exceptional print quality preserves the depth, texture and detail of the original, making it beautifully difficult to distinguish between the print and the original artwork.
